More About The Founder Of Concrete Design Systems

Kent began his career in the concrete world in Salt Lake City, Utah back in 1979. After 6 years of pouring flatwork, Kent relocated out to Sacramento California and started a Tennis Court business. This’s where he learned about the science of “Concrete Coatings”.

Tennis courts require a specific “color coating” pattern and striping design in order for the game to be played under official rules. For the next 9-years, Kent designed and installed tennis courts throughout the Sacramento and Northern California area incorporating the application of these acrylic color coatings. Over the course of that 9-year period many of the courts color coatings were delaminating prematurely…or so it seemed. Turns out that this “delamination” of the tennis court color coatings in a 4-8 year period was the average lifespan expectancy and the  acceptable industry standard. A closer examination of this premature delaminating revealed that the color coatings were separating from the concrete/asphalt surface due to moisture and hydrostatic pressure.

Kents research led him to an ex-Chevron chemist that developed formulations of these tennis court color coating acrylics – along with a waterproofing system specifically designed as a vapor barrier, that prevented the color coatings from premature delaminations resulting from the hydrostatic pressure/moisture issues, and extending the life of these coatings three times as long.

This is where “Concrete Design Systems” was born. This polymer modified resurfacer that became a God-send for extending the life of tennis court color coatings that was not only great for tennis court coatings – it was also useful in restoring and renewing old worn out concrete suffering the effects of “spalling“.

After 10-years of contracting in Sacramento, Kent relocated back to Utah and started to resurface, restore and renew old damaged and worn concrete surfaces with this amazing polymer modified resurfacer formula. It was in the harsh climate of the high deserts of Utah that this newly found Resurfacer would truly be put to the test! After thousands of applications over the course of 25-years, statistics reveal that there are 500 to 1 odds in favor of any given project for success…that’s pretty amazing!

Specializing in Resurfacing, Acid Staining, Epoxy Coatings and Urethane Waterproofing Coatings, Concrete Design Systems has experienced and developed the expertise to show the Do-It-Yourselfer exactly what, how, when and where to apply these coatings.
